If THIS then THAT

This is the coolest service I have seen in a while. Its hard to describe but essentially its like a little automation tool that can do things for you on the web. I just set up a ‘recipe’ that will cross post certain tweets, blog posts, and other content to my Facebookpage. Pretty darn cool. Its free too. Trust me this thing is MAGIC.

Bring (at least 6) images and some text/info for next week
We will be using them for the InDesign demo

This is my second attempt at writing this post. A mix of iPhone an tethering fritz and crappy tumblr drafts means I lost the last effort, probably a higher power’s doing…. Not only was it way too distracting for me at the time, I have since completely re-thought this post!

We just had…

Tumblr
Tumblr is a blogging based website with vast editing options as well as easy to use functional tools. The team at Tumblr has created basic tools on the home page when you log in for quick and easy upload, link or reference of material, be it audio, visual or text. To give a more professional taste to your website Tumblr allows you to apply your own domain name. Tumblr is easy to sign up to but also free. You can buy page(s) design/layouts from their editing option but they also have a large range of free designs/layouts.
Among the software world Tumblr is considered a blogging platform for micro-bloggers those people who don’t dedicate themselves to that resource but who like to be able to post efficiently. Tumblr is a beginner’s blogging site focusing on getting people blogging quickly as in it takes less than 5 minutes to set up. One of the great features of Tumblr is that it allows you to ‘mass edit’ your posts through the archive system.
Compared to other blogging websites Behance, Google’s Blogger and Wordpress among them, Tumblr is basic and it is recommended to have a Tumblr page that feeds off your primary blogging site. You have to outsource your own domain name, if you want one, and you are quite limited in editing options and features.
Designers and artists alike can use this site quickly and easily using feature like the time delay to put up works and information when they may not be able to have access at that point in time. Artists use Tumblr to upload photos and a portfolio of the work(s) as well as releasing images of works still underway. They can also guide their followers to their influences and recommendations. Designers and artists alike tend to have their tumblr divided into pages of different categories of which may include, work, own posts, studio, archive and links through to their website/Facebook/Twitter
For me I would use Tumblr as a secondary blogging site. I would release photos of my work in progress finished pieces and my influences in design. Tumblr would be my blogging page for the fact that it would be another blogging site for people to get in contact. I would use it as a re-blog site and direct people who are interested in my work to go to my primary blog and website. Tumblr is easy to use and simple to edit those features make it attractive as it requires little time/attention to maintain.

HOOOOOMEWORK: Zoran Sunjic on Behance

yasminmasrihomework:

Zoran Sunjic is an interior and product designer based in Rogotin, Croatia. I came across one of his projects on the home page and then, by just clicking on his name, was directed to his larger portfolio.

Behance allows Sunjic to have all of his contact information, including a link…

This is from the istockpack website, its a site which allows you to download vector files for packaging templates. No doubt it will come in handy at some stage.

Writing Desk, 2010, Queensland Walnut
This is one of my latest projects. The Writing Desk, being a simple object attempted to answer the brief of a ‘Container of Memories’. The exterior displays a simple structure relating to the institutionalised ways of my education thus far. The sloped top allows a initial affiliation with the piece and puts in an initial cognitive context.
The drawer system that lies within the desk displays two cavities containing two pieces of printed glass. These colourful tessellations that appear on each display the past and future for my life. The left drawer being at the darker end of the colour pallet display the institutional past and the ordered systems that i must follow. while the right drawer displays bright colours associated with an exciting and ever present future that will allow me to be ever expansive with my thoughts and concepts.

When we started living in cities, we did something that had never happened before in the history of life, we broke away from the equations of biology, all of which are sublinear. Every other creature gets slower as it gets bigger. That’s why the elephant plods along. But in cities, the opposite happens. As cities get bigger, everything starts accelerating. There is no equivalent for this in nature. It would be like finding an elephant that’s proportionally faster than a mouse.
